World of Warcraft Historical Beginnings

In 2004 a phenomenon hit the internet that has never been equalled when the World of Warcraft was released. Since then World of Warcraft, known affectionately as WoW by its players, has become the biggest and most popular "massively multiplayer online role-playing game" (MMORPG).

As of 2010 World of warcraft is the most successful of all the Blizzard titles and has outgrown and eclipsed all other Warcraft titles. However, it is also the most successful online game ever created!

Ever since 2004, when WoW was released in the USA, it has become a force to be reckoned with. When it reached its pinnacle World of Warcraft had 14 million active subscribers and was critically acclaimed all over the world.

Nowadays World of Warcraft has levelled out at a very respectable eleven million active gamers.

WoW is no longer merely a computer game but has become a genuine phenomenon all over the globe.

World of Warcraft is not the first game to take place in the world of Azeroth. These games first hit the gaming shelves in 1994 with the first Warcraft title Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.

Then in 1995 the second warcraft instalment was released. Gaming critics immediately hailed it as a masterpiece and the gaming community embraced it instantly to make it a huge success.The huge success of the first 2 Warcraft games then led to the release of the third title, Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos, in 2002.

Once the third Warcraft game had been released the game's makers, Blizzard Entertainment, released a statement that no more single player Pc Warcraft games would be made. Instead they had decided to create an online gaming environment for Warcraft games that would be multiplayer and interactive. Players would then have the ability to interact with in an entire online fantasy world filled with new creatures and other real people.

Although gaming critics and gamers alike waited in anticipation of the game it was not until late November of 2004 that the first release of World of Warcraft became available.

Almost every country in the world has World of Warcraft players who have different backgrounds and social standings.When it was at its most successful World of Warcraft attracted fourteen million active players.

Today WoW has a consistent eleven million players who actively play the game.With its consistent success and constant level of subscribers we can expect World of Warcraft to be here for a long time.
