World of Warcraft Has Changed Everything

When gaming went online many people thought, foolishly, that it was a passing phase. With the creation of the first MMORPGs however it was clear that online gaming was here to stay. The MMORPG (Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game) took video gaming to a whole new level. These games are exciting, intriguing, mentally challenging and highly entertaining. The online gaming world seemed to be expanding faster than anything ever had before and took everyone by surprise (including the creators of the games). World of Warcraft is by far the largest and most successful MMORPG ever created.

Due to the alarming rate at which world of warcraft was growing in its initial years many people believed it would top hundreds of millions! Nowadays WoW has to settle for 11,000,000 active players at any one time.

Think of it - 11 million people interacting in a virtual world with its own rules, regulations, laws of physics, currency, occupations etc. It is a world within the world!

The very things that make world of warcraft so enthralling and entertaining are the very things that make it so addictive. In severe cases addicted players has sat in front of their computer screen playing WoW for days at a time even falling asleep in front of their computers.

Marriages have disintegrated because of computer addiction and due to the fact that players interact with other real human beings online and therefore build up bonds and relationships online.

It has been said that World of Warcraft has ruined relationships and harmed lives. However, the opposite is also true! Many people have formed great friendships, lasting relationships and even been married as a result of meeting in the online environment offered by World of Warcraft.

With the negative effects of television and overt violence in computer games, not to mention the risk of online stalkers, many parents fear the effects of online gaming. There are people who honestly believe that playing computer games for long periods of time can seriously damage IQ points and lower intelligence.

Although there are people who will point to the evidence of this there is also a growing mountain of evidence to suggest that world of warcraft teaches people valuable team, managerial and business skills that are highly sought-after in the business world.

Many company executives and entrepreneurs claim that a workforce can learn a lot from playing WoW. When higher ranks in guilds are reached the skills acquired to manage a guild successful are the very skills taught in high end managerial courses.
